Thanx to everyone responsible for starting this website dedicated to Schwinn Homegrown. Because of this site that I accidentaly stumbled upon, I took my 98 Factory XT off of the storage rack and began to bring it up to date. Its bass boat blue and there are some scratches that chipped the paint off uncovering the base coat heavy silver sparkle. The Schwinn decal on the downtube is flaked off halfway, but once I get the sticker off I will post pics. I have a new sticker set for it, but I think im going to strip the frame down and have it repainted blue sparkle or maybee red sparkle.

Upgrades include IRC mythos tires, specialized titanium rail seat, cane creek headset and xtr front v-brake. Instead of rebuilding the judy SL I opted to buy a Rock Shox Tora SL. I know its kinda heavy but the price was right for 170 bucks. Im not concerned about the weight though because im looking to upgrade the Titec bars to a Easton carbon riser bars. I would also like to do the same to the seat post too. Im getting older so I need the riser bars couse it hurts bieng hunched over. I was in the neighborhood of the bike shop that I purchased the bike from two weeks ago. I walked through the door to the owner with my Homegrown and said “Hey whats up, you still give free lifetime tuneups”? The owner almost shat himself seeing the bike again after eleven years. Thanx for the awesome website. I will never give up my American made Homegrown for any bike thats made overseas. Im also looking ebay and craigs list for another one, or two, or three.

One question is, is my bike a Yeti built frame?? I tried to check the tech specs on the model of my bike on this site and it keeps kicking me to the 97 XTR bike. I know that in reading “Homegrown Facts” Yeti made the frames for the Factory XTR. Im assumeing that having “Factory” in the title for my bike its a Yeti frame. Doesnt really matter weather its Yeti or a Control tech frame, the big still rocks. I paid I believe $1,600 or $1,700 for the bike new in 98. Thanx

Yes, it’s a Yeti built frame. Specs here, look under Factory XT:

Now that I got another Homegrown in route, I think im going to strip my bike down and get it repainted this winter. My bass boat blue metal flake is chipping off big time. I got a guy that paints my Harley and hes top notch. He took a look at it and even told me he could paint on the checkered flag. Only thing is I gotta get another set of Schwinn stickers and a couple tomatoes. I might have to buy a catalog and have a sticker shop copy the two Homegrown logos near the seat tube. I guess its the age of the bike cousing the paint to chip. This cat is good, he does all my work. He even comes to my house and does touch ups once a year on my Harley. Hence I ride that thing like an animal.

Fantastic set-up.  I owned the 1999 bassboat blue frame but it was a size too small 19" when I need a 21" —

Also I keep looking for 21" frames on ebay, craigslist etc, they seem rarer than the 17" & 19" – anyone else notice this?

Yep, 17" seems to be the most popular. I like the bigger 19-21 sizes myself also.
