Service Pivot?

I have a Schwinn S-20 that I have been building up, replacing parts, etc.. There is some creaking I believe coming from the large round hole for the rear suspension. How do you service this?
Thank you

Im certainly no expert but if mine was squeaking , id replace the bushing or at least attempt to grease it with something like slick honey.
Heres a thread on mtbr with some replacement suggestions ...

So I did order the bearings from McMaster but the O.D is too big, these are too thick to fit into the pivot hole. I am concerned that really forcing them in will crack the frame.
I cleaned the the old ones and the tube as best I could, lubricated with slick Honey and reassembled. The creaking continues...
Any other suggestions?

That sucks .
Have you asked McMaster If they will exchange the bushing for the next size down. I read somewhere else Saying that some bushings fit loose and when you press the pivot inside it all tightens up nicely
There's also a chance you can get the parts from the sweetspot designer himself If you contact him

The outside diameter is too big- trying to press it in I am concerned it would crack the frame- it's that much bigger. I have a friend who is a machinist, I will ask him if he could take the OD down a bit. The outside flange is also thicker but I don't think that will be an issue. The bushing will have to be cut off to be the correct size but should not be a problem either.
If that doesn't work then I will contact John Castellano.
Thanks Cuda

Oh man I feel your pain. I went through this entire ordeal a little while ago. It's a very particular size. I couldn't find a replacement on McMaster. I got super lucky and I ended up finding some unused pivot hardware from another Schwinn owner.

Anytime I see a set on eBay they always sell for $$$$.

I'll be taking my bike to John Castellano in the near future. He lives about an hour away and has the pivots in stock. In addition, he says that the pivot itself is usually out of round, and that the bike will perform better once it is tweaked back.
I think he sells the Pivots for $30 for future reference.
Will post up after I get done with that.

That's pretty cool. I had contacted him a long time ago about this stuff but never got a response.

So, finally got my tax check and went to see John Castellano about my pivot bushings. Nice man, showed me some beautiful Silk Ti frames he has been working on- more like works of art!!

As to my bike; the bushings were good, he said they creak when wet, which has been the case. He did replace the Pivot sleeve as it was showing some wear on one side. I bought a tube of Jonniesnot for future use. John recommends it as it continues works in all weather conditions- especially very cold weather.

For anyone interested he does have bushings and sleeves in stock. He can be reached by phone or email.

Woot woot great followup! Thanks for the update and super pertinent information. In the past getting reliable info was akin to black magic. You have performed a great service for all the full suspension folks here.

Just to add. My bike had newer designed bushings on it already. The person I bought it from must have gotten them from John at some point. He can tell by the color, and some are longer/thicker than others. So I would suggest you call him to discuss what you need before ordering.

Although my bike is not a Homegrown, (S-20) I'm loving it!!
John does have a couple of Fango's in storage in M and L, some are unpainted in unfinished aluminum.

Like Moby said, awesome info, runzoff. When I didn't have luck contacting John it was by email only so if anyone has that problem in the future you might try doing it the old-fashioned way.
I'm going to have to sticky this or add the info to the FAQ.
Thanks again for the follow-up, runzoff.
