Pricecheck on 1999 HG Factory Team bike

Hi guys,

This seems to be the authoratative place for all things Schwinn Homegrown-related. I have a HG that has seen very little use lately and am trying to decide to keep her or sell.
So, I thought before I make the decision to try E-bay or keep I should ask this community what the real value of my bike may be.

The bike is a 1999 Schwinn Homegrown Factory Team.
All parts are origianl XTR.
Original fork replaced with Fox F100x.
Original headset replaced with Chris King headset.
Original Titec handlebar replaced with Easton Monkeylite.
Seat upgraded to Selle Italia TransAm gel saddle.
Pedals are Crank Bros. Mallet Cs

Everything is in great shape and the bike was tuned up at LBS this Summer but I never actually got to the trails.
As I said, I am only trying to figure out if I were to sell what I should realistically ask.

Man, I love that bike. Too bad it's not just the frameset, I doubt I could afford the whole thing right now.
19" frame?

I think I'd pay, or recommend a friend to pay, up to about $700 for that bike. If I could afford that, I would offer it. I ride a 98 Factory Suspension, and that HT would be a nice addition and complement to it.

Johnny,

Nice bike.

I would probably suggest trying ebay, only bad thing with ebay is fees.
Just the final value fee would be about $20-36, then add listing fees, then paypal fees, etc. It adds up quick.

With that being said, I might be interrested in buying it. Are you the orginal owner, if so how much use has this bike seen? Any dents, dings or scratches other than what is seen in your 2 pics? Any problems with shifting, shock, or wheel truenes?

If you decide to let it go, list on ebay with a reserve or post a price on here and see what happens.

Thanks, Nic

Thanks for the replies.
I am the second owner (bought it off craigslist two years ago) and had big plans to get back into riding...then came kid #2 and a new job. I really like the bike and am not sure I am actually going to sell but also don't want to damage a classic bike like this one if it's worth a decent amount of money. The bike has no dents or dings and only a few scratches. It shifts fine, front fork works fine and wheels are nice and true (I had my local bike shop tune up the bike and fix anything that was wrong with it when I bought it...nothing was wrong with it and they commented at the time that it looked almost brand new to them).
Again, at this point in time I am just trying to find the monetary value IF I decide to sell.
For pricing reference here is a 1999 Schwinn Homegrown Elite that just went for $850 plus shipping on Ebay (MSRP on that bike in 1999 was around $1600) http://cgi.ebay.com/1999-Schwinn-Homegrown_W0QQitemZ170399155489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMountain_Bikes?hash=item27ac94c521
The 1999 Schwinn Homegrown Factory Team bikes were around $3,800.

Yes, I was actually the 2nd place bidder on the 1999 Elite green on ebay. I think that bike went alittle high, hard to tell since it had very few miles approx 221 according to listing, the seller even had orginal tire with nubs still on them.

There was a 1998 Factory bike that went for $685, this bike is the same model as yours just the previous year. It was also a very low mile all orginal bike.

Someone got a killer deal on that 98 Factory. That bike was very untouched and all original. In my opinion, $850 for the 99 Elite was a little high. It's only a 6061 frame (although any Homegrown is sweet). Usually only the factory frames go that high.

I followed both of those sales and was surprised by the outcome for each one. The 99 Elite went for quite a bit more than I guessed and the 98 Factory went quite a bit lower than I would have guessed. There is no way I would let my 99 Factory Team go for $685...but that's just me.
I first caught the Homegrown bug a few years back when I saw a nice 98 Bassboat Blue Homegrown for sale on my local Craigslist but it had already sold by the time I contacted the seller...I still love the bassboat paintjobs especially the blue/silver.
I think I'm just going to hang on to my bike and appreciate what I have...which is a truly awesome bike. After all this talk I have actually started to ride & appreciate this bike all over again.
Thanks,
Johnny
