Homegrown Archive

Hi John,
An idea that was born on the FB group: it would be awesome to have an archive of existing HG by SN#. This was suggested in reference specifically to the Project Underground models (of which there were/are relatively few).

Depending on how much time/work this would take, it would be cool to have for all models, but that's probably an admin nightmare... On a related note, is it possible (known?) the quantity of each model that was produced? If so, this would be very valuable/interesting information to include on the info page of each model!

Thanks for keeping this site active (y)

It wouldn't be terribly difficult to do, like I said in my other post it's mostly a matter of time. Like you noted, the site's really not all that active, which also kind of hurts my motivation, but I know it's a bit of a chicken-egg situation too. Honestly, I've been thinking of just taking it down lately, especially since I looked at what I've paid in hosting over the past 6 years.

I have no idea what hosting cost is, but would be willing to make a donation to keep this site up and running.

It's $8/month. Never intended the site to be a money-maker, and it's not a big deal but it adds up. I know I could do ads but I hate them with a burning, firey passion. Looked at doing a premium member deal but not really sure how to make it worthwhile for people, especially with most people just posting on the Facebook page.
In the meantime, there is a paypal link at the top of the page, but no pressure. Drinks

No worries, Jeff. Not a big deal at all.

With regard to production numbers... over the summer in doing research on the Anodising Inc. built ENF/Pro Modified BMX frames Rich mentioned that at least with regard to AI production (as this was all our conversation adressed) they only got one shot- they had to forcast the entire year all at once and place one single order for frames. There was no going back two months later and asking for 200 more. I don't know if this as a Schwinn budget planning thing or an AI "we only jig up once, you only get one chance" thing (still trying to track down old timers from AI but like you say John, motivations wax and wane) but one of the things he did not remember was production minimums... at least with AI. Obviously a metric boatload more HG's were built than the BMX frames (we guessed 1000 max units in 95-96 each and the registry I started for those seems to back this up so far) but if it comes to it I'd be happy to thow my name in the hat for serial tracking, site contributions, or even picking up the future hosting, though in all honesty someone who knows more about them should be a first choice...but if you'd like to start a BMX sub forum... lol.

Guess I oughta drag myself over to FB... god i hate that place.

Collecting serial numbers of Schwinn '95-'01 ENF/Pro Mod BMX frames for posterity.

Cool, thanks Matt. I'm open to any help I can get and have definitely thought about adding some stuff on the similar BMX bikes and Fastbacks.

Successfully got my development server running again (mostly) on a new computer and new operating system, so I can get back to work. Might have some time over the holidays...

I'm with you on FB...not my thing.
