The 1996 catalog shows my bike with the Fox Alps r4 rear shock which has no outer spring. The 1997 catalog shows the rear shock
with a outer spring. Is the catalog perhaps a year off?

You’re 100% correct that it’s a 1996; I apparently needed some coffee and was going off the 1995 that I somehow put in the 1996 model page. Sorry about that!
