Full-suspension Homegrowns debuted in 1997 with the introduction of the Homegrown Factory Suspension, based on John Castellano’s Sweet Spot® URT design and featuring 3.75 inches of suspension travel. The Homegrown Factory Suspension XT was the mid-range Homegrown Factory Suspension model for 1997 and featured a 6061 aluminum frame made by Anodizing, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. This frame was shared with the other Homegrown Factory suspension models and was available in buffed or “Killer Tomato Red.” An important note is that there is no rear disc mount on the 1997 Homegrown Factory Suspension XT, unlike the 1998 and 1999 Homegrown Factory Suspension models.
The build kit for the Homegrown Factory Suspension XT included a complete Shimano Deore XT group (with pedals), and slightly lower-end aluminum cockpit relative to the Control Tech bits and Yeti handlebar on the Homegrown Factory Suspension XTR. Like the other Homegrown Factory Suspension models, the Homegrown Factory Suspension XT used an 80mm travel fork in place of the 63mm forks used on the Homegrown hardtails. In this case, a Rock Shox Judy XC was fitted to the Homegrown Factory Suspension XT in place of the Judy SL on the Homegrown Factory Suspension XTR.
