Homegrown XL / 21″ frame size-
The last year of the original Schwinn bikes – considered the best Mt. Bike of its era. Handmade frame with gold anodized finish. I’ve researched to find out what the total production of these were. It appears to be in the 100’s.
This bike is a complete renovation with all new parts used for the build.
Complete NOS Shimano XTR group for derailleurs, shifters, brakes, hubs, seat post, bottom bracket, crank set, chain rings, rear cluster + pedals. NOS Rock Shox SID titanium / carbon forks. Mavic wheels with MAXXIS IKON tires. Thompson Elite stem.
No expense spared. Cost of parts was over $3000 not including the frame. Bike originally sold for $4000. Weighs in right at 20 pounds. This was a passion project – looking for a like minded person who understands the scarcity and quality of this ride or wants to put it into a collection.
$2000
I saw the bike on ebay. It’s beautiful. I did a build of a 2001 goldie NOS frame as a 27.5″ wheels, with hydraulic disc brakes. I know what you mean about costs. I spent close to $3000 building mine. I wish I could figure a way to attach a photo for you to take a look.
Livernose, can you not click on the image insert button (or is it not there?). It works on my test account…
Hi John
Thanks for the message – I think I saw a photo of your Factory Limited years ago. It is awesome. I have a 2000 + a 2001 Factory Limited XL built out the same. Long story. The 2001 has the beefier rear drop, but I bought the 2000 as a birthday present to myself like 10 years ago and the gold anodizing is much nicer on the 2000 than the 2001. So I thought I could cut lose the 2001..
Cheers
