Schwinn Homegrown Model Identifier › Forums › Stock 2000 HG Pro – Best Upgrades?
I have a completely stock 2000 Homegrown Pro and want to begin updating it. Any advice on the best ways to start / upgrades that will make the biggest difference?
Update – I’ve ordered the Hayes brakes (with the 22mm direct mount rear), so now I need to get a wheelset with 6 bolt hubs. Since I need new wheels, I was wondering if anyone has successfully put 27.5 / 650bs on (or 650 front / 26 rear)?
My frame is a large (I think – need to measure again), and I plan to go with a Fox 32 Float or a RockShox SID 100mm fork. I worry about the geometry if I increase the fork travel 20mm and go with a 650 front / 26 rear.
I have an aluminum Project Colorado with an old Rock Shox SID dual air that works much better than the Judy SL that came on the bike. Other than the fork I switched the Canti brakes with XTR V brakes with kool stop pads. Everything on the bike is XTR except the front hub which is Machine Tech, Mavic 717 rims, Thomson seatpost and Tioga stem and Monkey Lite bars. The fork was definitely the biggest improvement. I attached a picture that was taken before I changed to 717 rims.
