Schwinn Homegrown Model Identifier › Forums › Finally done – Project Underground
Four years ago I bought a Project Underground frame – my plan was simple; get the parts and build. I had the money and the time.
But as you’ve probably guessed things changed. Moving to a new house, getting married and having a son somehow puts a project like building a bike on hold.
This summer I finally took took the time to empty all the small boxes and complete the build. And what a ride!!!
Here’s some details:
The frame was repainted by the previous owner. The color is a bright Bass Boat Gold (unlike the BB gold on my ’99 4-banger All Mountain).
The Fork is the original RS SID form my ’99 Homegrown Pro. It has new seals and bushings. It has been powder coated glossy black.
Mavic CrossRide wheels with Continental RaceKing Supersonic 2.0 tires and FunWorks Titanium QR
Cane Creek 110 headset
Thomson stem and seatpost
Ritchey WCS Riser bar and WCS Marathon saddle
SRAM 9.0sl RD and Shimano XT FD
Truvativ Stylo OCT 3.3 cranks and SRAM PG950 11-28 casette
KMC X9 SL silver chain.
SRAM X.0 gripshifts
Avid Single Digit 7 brakes and Speed Dial levers
Jagwire Ripcord cables (gears and brakes)
ESI Racer’s Edge grips (cut to fit with the gripshifts).
Weight: 9.85 kg = 21.72lbs
That is a cool color. I was reading the story, and didn’t think I’d like the color until I saw the pictures. I am partial to BBB but that is very nice!
Very cool to see the update. I was wondering what happened to that frame.
@ Livernose: No doubt that the BBB would be even cooler but any PU frame is hard to find.
@tomatoadmin: Do you remember the frame form the ebay aution, or do you know anything else about this specific frame?
I just remember the auction and debating whether or not to bid.
Clean Rock Shox. I was going to ask if it was a SID, but I re-read the description and see it is a SID. All my mountain bikes have SID shocks. Nice and light.
