I have a 2001 yellow Schwinn Homegrown; believe it is an 18” frame. Been trying to update parts but having trouble finding a speck sheet or an owner’s manual. “Tomato” needs some loven; a new fork is needed badly. I have been looking at a Manitou R7 Pro. Not shur what size I need? I would love if someone could email me an owner’s manual, or tell me where to find one?
Owners’ manuals are/were geared toward all models and don’t have any specific info. Here’s the page for your bike on this site: http://bonustomato.com/models/2001-homegrown-comp-ht
You’ll need a standard 1-1/8″ (straight) steerer tube fork. The fork on the bike originally was 80mm travel but that’s pretty tough to find these days. You can go to a 100mm travel fork without altering the handling too much.
Non tapered 1-1/8″ steer tubes are getting scarce. I just picked up a new Rockshox on Price Point. I’ll install it this week, but I don’t think the extra 20mm will be noticeable once I set the sag.
