So I always wanted a Homegrown full suspension but couldn’t afford it when they were new. I stumbled across one at a garage sale. It’s a 1995 model and it looks like there was just the one full suspension option in 95. Anything to look out for? I notice the rear triangle is different on the 95 vs the later models. Any negative to that? It’s a couple hundred miles away so I’d like to know as much as I can before commiting to the drive.

You want to look for slop in the pivot, which is notoriously hard to fix. However, recently one of the friendly users here (runzoff) did some legwork to track down how to get new pivot hardware from the guy who made them:

The rear shock might be cashed out. It might be challenging to find a replacement, but there’s also another thread here talking about possible subs:

Look for excessive chainsuck damage, and otherwise the frame being square. Look around the headtube—you don’t want one that’s been endo’d (too much). Cracks in paint and stuff is sure giveaway, but even look for more subtle signs of damage.

Several years ago, I managed to track down a NOS unfinished and unassembled frameset:
I wanted to get the frame ball burnished before assembling, and tracked down a shop in Southern California to take care of it for me. Got the frame to them, and like 10 years later I haven’t heard a damn thing back.
June 26, 2016 at 10:32 pm #4428YorktownMemberWell at least I never actually had it, so that’s something. 😉 Posted a wanted ad and I’ve got my Ebay searches going, besides that anywhere else I should post/look?
June 26, 2016 at 11:27 pm #4429mobyMemberWell aside from just scouting around here every now and then, the other thing I might suggest is Craigslist, but possibly from other cities. In the past I’ve had some luck finding one in SoCal and convincing the guy to ship it to me. I arranged it ahead of time with an area shop there I was familiar with, so all he had to do was roll it into the shop and they packed it up and shipped it up to me.
Oh wait I actually had a point to that story: His original listing was “local only/pickup only” but I sweetalked him into it, so if you see a listing it’s always worthwhile to enquire.
I think a lot of Schwinns ended up in places like Cal, and Colorado (since they were building them there) and Portland/PNW. I onced picked up a Homegrown frameset from a pawnshop in Portland for $75, because they probably thought it was a department store bike:

June 28, 2016 at 1:54 pm #4433YorktownMemberWill do, thanks.
July 9, 2016 at 6:46 pm #4475CraigBParticipantI have a 1995 Homegrown Full Suspension I might part with. I picked up earlier this year, but have since bought a 4-Banger All Mountain and tend to ride it rather than my other bikes.

August 24, 2016 at 7:18 pm #4686ZoltanParticipantWhat ended up happening to the 1995 Sweetspot at the yard sale?
August 25, 2016 at 2:36 am #4689YorktownMemberSold to someone else while I was driving up. Beyond that I have no idea.
