Hi all. Looking for info (year, model, etc) on my homegrown. I bought it from a friend who worked at a bike store. The bike was only ridden a few times and he was explaining how the bike was really special…? I’ve owned it since then and have only ridden it maybe 10 times. Here’s a picture. I’m just curious because everyone freaks out when I say I have a homegrown and ask several questions I don’t have answers for. Thank you very much ahead of time.
May 17, 2017 at 12:19 pm #4916tomatoadminKeymasterLooks like a ’97 XT with some upgraded parts. Here’s the model, though the catalog picture is of the polished frame: http://bonustomato.com/models/1997-homegrown-hardtail-xt-ht
May 17, 2017 at 4:06 pm #4917SIKES44MemberThank you very much. Everything else is XTR except the crank. I was having no luck finding any model/year with that combo.
May 17, 2017 at 8:39 pm #4918tomatoadminKeymasterI should’ve added those were available as framesets, so it’s probably more likely a custom build from the start than replacing a bunch of parts. Dur.
May 18, 2017 at 3:36 pm #4919SIKES44MemberI do remember getting some extra parts with the bike. It’s been so long ago, but I’m thinking possibly the xt derailers, etc. I wouldn’t ever sell the bike, but was curious what this would sell for. Several guys offered me $600-$700 and said they mainly wanted the frame. Thanks again for helping me out.

June 6, 2017 at 1:34 pm #4942tomatoadminKeymaster$600 would be a good deal for you. Going rate lately seems to be closer to $400 but it depends on the buyer…you might get lucky if someone really wants that particular frame/color, but generally speaking the older frames are a little less desirable these days since everyone wants (ISO) discs. There’s one like yours near Chicago that’s been on craigslist for $500 or so for at least a year, if not longer.
Completed listings on ebay are always a good resource; there’s bikes currently on auction with high prices that have been on there for months.June 6, 2017 at 1:35 pm #4943tomatoadminKeymasterAlso very jealous of all the ’97 BBB Sweet Spots. I’ve been looking for a 17″ forever…
June 6, 2017 at 11:03 pm #4944SIKES44MemberThanks for the responses. Nice full suspension bike. Love the blue color. Thanks again all.
June 13, 2017 at 12:53 am #4967TUC51ParticipantIt has 4′ of travel now instead of 3 3/4 I think.
June 13, 2017 at 12:59 am #4970TUC51ParticipantI’m making you more jealous, these where taken the other day, YuuuuuuuuuP everybody on the trial says the same WOW awesome looking!!!
June 13, 2017 at 1:01 am #4973TUC51Participantfrom 6/10/17
June 13, 2017 at 1:08 am #4976TUC51ParticipantYes that is correct 25.5 lbs with pedals, big heavy tires and bar ends. I did have it down to 24.8 lbs with no bars ends and light weight tires. How many full suspension bikes these days are that light without putting stupid lightweight parts for someone that weighs 120 lbs. I’ve out of cycling for so years what would this bike cost in today’s pricing? Thank You
