What a surprise discovering this website. I bought a red 2000 Homegrown in April 2000 and still own it. I’ll start off with some pictures I took today and will eventually update you on how I ended up at this site
Couple of more photos…..
Cool, glad you found the site. Bike looks to be in great shape!
I’m primarily a road cyclist. In 2000, I was living in New Jersey, but working in Maryland as a consultant. I was also dating a woman in Maryland who eventually became my wife. Since I had a road bike back up in NJ, I bought an inexpensive ($1200.00) mountain bike to keep in my hotel room for weekday riding and then bring it to her condo for weekend rides. It appears I bought one of the inexpensive models. I wasn’t ready to spend much more at the time. I spent a lot of time a the C&O Canal riding it, usually a 40 mile ride. The C&O Canal is 184 miles long, but not technical at all. Just dirt, gravel and rolling terrain. I brought it to Schaefer Farm in Maryland with a buddy a couple of times, but truth be told, I wasn’t very comfortable riding over roots, rocks, streams, etc. Now I’ve got two Trek bikes for road cycling and more casual rides around the neighborhood. In the last year, I’ve mentioned the Homegrown to a couple of employees at bike shops in the area and both told me to hold onto it. Well, I started thinking about selling it again to make some room in the garage when I happened upon this web-site. I decided to hold onto the bike. I’m quite impressed by the rebuilt Homegrowns I’ve seen here. Do these people work as bike mechanics?
