MemberI have the down tube SCHWINN decals, and a top tube Stinger “S” decal. New headbadge and a Easton for Schwinn badge. Nothing that says Homegrown yet.

Here’s how it looks after 2 coats of glitter. Might be around 6 coats to finish, then decals, then clear.

MemberI just found the website below that has some cool looking decal options. Anybody ever buy from them?

livernoseParticipantI have ordered from Velocals. I may have an extra seat tube wrap from the Underground set. I asked him to take the large circle off from around the “S” to make it more correct. No cutout for the front derailleur stop on the seat tube wrap, but that can be cut out. I attached a picture of my brother’s frame with the proper seat tube wrap with the cut out. Unsure if you can see it but that’s the only photo I have of it.
The other set be sure to tell him the dimensions of the rear seat stay decals, because the ones he sent me were much larger than the stock ones. Plus they both have Epicenter on them versus the original that have epicenter on the left one and seatstay on the right one.
It is cool he can make any color decal you want if you want to go with original style, but a different color.

Also, I think a fair amount of people have had good luck with velocals.

MemberThanks for the input on Velocals. I think I’ll get a set (or 2).
Painting update: Only able to apply a third coat because the stars didn’t align for me this week. I did purchase more glitter because I know I will need it. I wish I had weighed the bare frame so I could calculate how much the paint job added to it. The paint shop recommended I focus my spray with a smaller “fan” as it comes out of the gun. He said I’m probably wasting too much product.
This message reads like my week has gone. Only time for quick bullet points then move on to the next fire storm.

MemberAfter 4 coats of glitter I was still seeing excessive amounts of Turquoise for my liking. The paint supply store convinced me to apply a light coat of candy (I chose china blue). This did darken the frame to something more along the lines of what I originally wanted. I really regret not using a black base.
I applied 1 coat of candy and got the results you see on the last pic. I need to flip the frame over so I can get the tube bottoms as well. The candy has toned down the sparkle, so I think I will put more glitter on top of the candy to bring the sparkle back.
Oh well, I’m having fun with the painting, but it’s getting expensive doing so much trial and error. I have another frame (Lynskey Ridgline Ti) that I think I will try and paint the front half in a bass boat fashion. I still have the gold and green flakes……

livernoseParticipantI like the results so far. You gonna Apply clear to smooth the finish?
April 23, 2019 at 7:14 pm #5583bikeric
MemberThere will be a few coats of clear applied after decals. Not necessarily to make it 100% smooth. I had an original Bass Boat Blue Factory hardtail back in the day and its’ paint was not smooth to the touch like the 1998 and later versions.

MemberUpdate: I pretty much ruined the glitter paint job when I applied the Candy Coat to darken it. Now it just looks like a lumpy paint job.
I need to start over by stripping the paint off and get it back to bare metal. I haven’t found the motivation to do so just yet. I will be trying a differnt paint method next time, but it will definitaly start with a black base coat. I plan to continue updating so maybe others can learn from my mistakes on this. livernoseParticipantPractice makes perfect. It will be worth it in the long run.

tomatoadminKeymasterBummer that you’ve got to start over, but at least this way you get to do the black base coat?
Thanks for keeping track of the process here.

MemberThe frame is still hanging in the garage untouched from when I quit it. I must say the color is growing on me and I am considering building it up as-is. Probably go with polished hubs and some citron x517 wheels. Rest of the parts shiny aluminum or Ti. Been awhile since I’ve had a bike without black spokes.
My Dad shipped me his 19″ Bass Boat Blue 1997 Factory hardtail, so I have an excellent reference now. The 19″ frame is too big for me to mountain ride, so I’m considering turning it into my gravel bike. Also considering just taking all the parts off and hanging the frame on the wall as art……
I’ll post pics of both bikes in the next day or so.

livernoseParticipantNice. I’ve got a 97 BBB Factory Homegrown. There aren’t many of those around where I’m at. Since this photo I’ve changed the fork to a white Fox RLC and put 1″ Specialized fatboys on and ride it as a hybrid. Heresy!

MemberFunny thing is your frame is built different than my Factory Homegrowns. Both of mine have the cable stops at about 2 O’clock on the top tube which causes the cables to sorta cover the “Homegrown Factory” stickers on the drive side of top tubes. It looks like your cable stops are at the 12 O’clock position.
Is that a difference between 1996 and 1997? If so, are both of mine possibly 1996’s?
