Hello, I’m new to this group but a long-time owner and lover of the Homegrown line of bikes. I have read management’s disclaimer about selling in this forum and assure you that I won’t scam anyone.
I’d like to offer for sale a 19” 1998 Schwinn Homegrown XT. I’m the original owner, purchased at HDK Cycles in Newport News, VA. The bike is all original except:
- Parts that wear have been replaced (grips, tires, brake pads, chain, etc.).
- I may or may not have replaced the shifting and brake cables, I think I have but I’m not sure.
- Bar end shifters were not included with this bike, and I’ve taken off the bar ends so I could coach in the NICA league. I’ve added a lizard skin chain stay protector.
- When I purchased the bike I had the shop install a 160mm stem.
This bike comes with original equipment, including XTR rear derailleur and shifter, XT front derailleur and shifter, XT cranks, Avid brake levers, Rock Shok disc brakes (front) and XT V-brakes (rear), Rock Shok Judy SL fork, Titec seat post and 560mm handlebar, XT hubs front and rear with Mavic X222 rims. The original bar ends will be included in the sale.
No pedals are included in the sale.
Regarding wear, the frame has no dents but does have scratches, rubs, smears, and dings in the paint as happens when a bike is ridden for 15 years. Some of the paint under the Lizardskin has delaminated and bare metal is exposed. Many of the decals are worn or mostly missing. I didn’t picture both sides of the bike, but they’re roughly equivalent in terms of wear and decals.

I live in west Alabama and am willing to meet up within 1.5 hrs of my home if that helps make the sale. I’d prefer not to ship, but if you’ll pay shipping I’ll make it happen.
