    Heyaz:

I’ve been meaning to ask if anyone has had any issues with their ICBM headset? I just got mine assembled and there’s a gap between the top of the headtube and the headset top. The gap is probably about 1/8″, and exposes the bearing.

I had a issue but only my fault for installing it incorrectly had no gap after I fixed my screw up.

This is what my headset looks like. The white strip is the upper bearing, covered in a layer of Teflon tape. I guess the upper bearing race needs to be re-faced. Homegrown Headset: Gap in my 2000 Homegrown headsetHomegrown Headset: Gap in my 2000 Homegrown headset

I had a similar gap on my 2001 and it made the front end feel kind of sketchy. I took a bar clamp and compressed it a little so it seated better. made the front end more stable. I hope I ‘m right but my bike feels better this way and I don’t think the bearing should be exposed..

So far my setup hasn’t given me problems, but it’s only been a couple of relatively light rides. I double checked, and the entire bearing is sitting properly–just doesn’t seem like it’s seated deep enough. The bearing seems pretty sealed.

Certainly doesn’t inspire confidence, but if SchwinnGuy’s looks like this, then I’ll just chalk it up as this is how they’re made.

I know it’s an old post, but just for the record, it’s pretty normal for them to look like that.
