Hi,
My ALPS 4 is leaking quite a bit now and I’m looking for a modern replacement. Per a previous post, the spec on the rear shock is:
Eye-to-eye: 5.5″ (140mm?)
Piston travel/stroke: 1.25″ (32mm)
What would be the harm in trying a 6″ shock with a 1.25 stroke?
Risse Racing appears to have something. http://risseracing.com/airshocks.shtml I have an email into them.
It doesn’t look like Cane Creek has anything.

The other attempt is to find a shock old enough that fits and yet has a rebuild kit. Any ideas welcome.
Hey –
i’m looking to replace my rear shock too, and i have the same specs as you. my Cane Creek AD-4 is leaking, and I’m having a hard time finding shocks with 5.5 eye2eye. Did you replace your ALPS4? What kind of shock had our specs?
Try cane creek cloud nine, it has almost the same specs as yours. Pretty close.
I second the cane creek cloud nine. It makes you feel like you have a completely new bike.
If you call CC, they can custom build you one based on the frame. For the HG full suspensions, it is a 5.5 eye to eye and I believe a 1.25 inch stroke for about 3-3.5 inches of travel. Adjustability on the Cloud Nine is great. If you want more or less travel they could probably build it to your spec.
