Hey Jeff-
I have that exact same fork, I’m thinking about installing it on my daughter’s 12″ frame Barracuda. She loves that bike and now that she is over 5 feet tall (5’3″ at 10 years old) I think her bike handling skills are up for front suspesuspension.
OK, I remember that bike. Did I sell you the frame decals? The decals I am sending are correct for the year 04-06 RS SID I believe. They should look good on that fork. I have a blue 98/99 SID I am getting ready to service. Just wondering if that fork was originally blue.

    Hello livernose,

Thanks for the kind words! I am building this as a straight across parts swap from one of my other bikes. My goal is an on budget, weight weenie, parts (on hand) bike. I’ve build a number of parts bikes, a few budget builds, but I’ve never really built up a weight weenie bike. Being the frame is 2 lbs 9 ozs (assuming the 2000 catalog is accurate), it would seem to be the ideal base for a light weight hardtail racer. I’m running a straight ahead 29″/26″ set, I’m not converting to 650b anytime soon. I installed a PAUL Neo-Retro canti brake in the rear. The Neo-Retro balances well with the Avid BB7 mechanical disc brake up front. I considered running some Avid hydraulic brakes I have in my spare bin but that would require me to spend money which would totally blow my $100.00 budget for the build. Thankfully a seller on Ebay in Taiwan posted 5 NOS ICBM stock headsets this past week. Being I needed one, I snagged it and the price was more than fair at $27.00 with free shipping. The only bummer is the 2 to 4 week delivery time, it’ll give me time to sort out the rest of the details. With that hurdle handled, I should come in under budget. I paid $35.00 for the frame with the Tomato seatpost clamp, another $25.00 for a chain plus cables & housing, and $27.00 for a new Tange/Cane Creek headset… $87.00 invested is something I’m very proud of and diggin’ it in a big way!!!

    Thanks again!

Ordered some decals with the black Schwinn script with dark gray shading from Velocals. Hopefully they will be here soon and correct for 2001 frame.

    Hey Jeff,

    Happy new year!

Please post photos once you’ve installed the decals. I’ve seen the small stock image from VeloCals, that’s fine for getting an idea, but I’d love to see how they look on a frame. My 2000 Homegrown Pro that I picked up recently has no decals but I want to be sure before dropping that kind of coin on a sticker kit.

    Thanks for the help!

    Cheers,
