New Toy ’99 HG URT FS

Well,   I was perusing Ebay again and found this:

Had a buy it now price of $260, which I was willing to pay, but decided to bid instead. Got it for quite a bit less. Planning on building another Single Speed, but one that doesn’t beat me up quite as bad on the rough stuff.

Well that was quick. I went home for lunch and while I was there, the FedEx truck came bearing gifts. I totally forgot this has the Hayes 22mm Disc mount on the URT. I’m stoked. I need to give it a good cleaning. I may even polish the rear triangle. Now, if I could find a full set of decals for it.

You’re right. I didn’t think that was the correct set, because it’s listed for a hardtail.

Okay, next question… What’s the best technique for removing what remains of the existing decals? Heat? Goof off? I want to get it all off as clean as possible, so I can polish before I go back with a new decal set.

I usually use a blow dryer to heat them and peel them off, followed by goof off to remove the glue residue, then rubbing alcohol. Polishing up the paint is a good idea before applying the new decals. I usually do any paint touch up before applying the decals. Good luck

Jeez, I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I was here. I built this up quite some time ago and it’s become my go to ride. Also converted it to 27.5 a few months back. It tips the scale at 24.8 lbs.

It’s the same as the RockShox coil over that it replaced. I’m trying to remember… it’s either 5.5″ or 5.75″. John Castellano spec’d it for me and got it directly from Fox. It gives up 1/8″ of stroke which translates to about 3/4″ travel at the rear axle. It’s a DPS and so far it’s been completely trouble free.
