So last weekend I picked up a decent donor 17” Homegrown for $300, has XT components with a 9 speed cassette, Easton bar and seat post, decade old Fox F100 RLT with good rebound, Cane Creek headset (sealed bearing!!), newer Schwalbe Hans Dampfs on Magic XC 717s, Avid single digit 7 brakes. To me, these are major upgrades! And from what I can tell so far, everything is compatible (in this image, I had swapped the seat posts).
Well, I’ve been trying to start a new post with my history to Homegrown and why I’m and so attached to my frame, but have been getting an error. Anyway, here’s where we’re at, hopefully will submit

What year do you think that bike might be?
I’ve been looking around for components to swap onto my 19″ ’96 s96 .3, ideally off of a Homegrown. I just want to keep my original frame.
I found this local, supposedly a 17″. It has a Fox fork, wondering if it’s worthwhile? Not sure of year of this “homegrown”.

“I am selling my schwinn Homegrown Mtn Bike. It is in really great condition. It has been professionally powder coated and well taken care of. It is an old bike, but one of the originals! The frame was actually built by yeti for schwinn. Its a great classic bike. It has Xt components avid brakes. New Schwalbe tires.”

Sorry for late reply, I have been following this thread. The bike was for sale on the ‘bay when I found it, but after a bunch of research, it had previously been posted a few times in a CL listing out of Redding, CA. Someone basically posed this bike as an “original’ built from Schwinn factory and given direct to a Schwinn BMX racer who then sold off. The whole story was just mysterious and elusive enough to get my attention, mixed with a too-good-to-be-true price, but I passed at the end of the day.
A big thank you to this site for the info around here! Hopefully goes to show how coveted a true homegrown is (and should remain).
