From everything I know, the Yeti-Schwinn “divorce” happened in mid/late 1998, thus ending the Yeti built Schwinn Homegrown Factory style. Yeti continued to build their ARC hardtail frame, and the Schwinn Homegrown Factory builds went out to a different group. The frame decals 1996 & 1997 said Homegrown Factory, in 1998 & 1999 the frame paint-jobs were really what set things apart.. unless you happened to get your hands ona team-issue or other connected bike frame that came with some of the sponsor stickers. The weldling on the Yeti built frames from what I’ve observed is very well done, excellent beading/etc.. good lines. No issues/.complaints with the Control Tech built frames & their welds, but you can see the difference. The tubing is also different 7005 series Aluminum vs. 6061…. and the non-factory frames are more squared in the chainstays.

I hope you really enjoy your ride.. I would say $300 was a good deal.. I’d only be selling the frame, so that kind of fits into what I was thinking.. The frame is in reallly good shape, just I want to build my 98 LXT Bassboat Red Frame up which remains in bubble wrap.

I just got out-bid on the Homegrown Factory Bassboat blue.. and cannot go higher..
I don’t know how much money you’re looking to spend, but a LOT of LBS will help you out with a rigid chro-moly fork or other standard fork…. Some of the nice things with a Chro-moly and how much the LBS does, you can get custom colors etc. Ben’s Cycle in Milwaukee, WI sells a lot of forks like that.
I wish you great luck in finding a fork that you really like, sometimes it takes a lot of trying out forks & re-trying forks..
Nothing too critical – just a few of the following are my thoughts..
The frame is NOT Yeti built, as 2000 saw Schwinn using their “N’lightened” aluminum design.. Also at this time they moved to an intergrated headset (not a fan.)
The frame itsself looks to be in good condition & needing paint…. If you have the time and energy to build it up – definately go for it.. Otherwise keep your eyes peeled to Ebay & Craigslist as the 17 inch frames seem to frequently come up for sale.
Me, I’m a bigger guy and have to work double hard to find the 21″ frames..

I know a LOT of local bike shop owners would horde these items hoping to one day turn a big profit on Ebay — the days of ebay infancy —

As far as selling them, I really hadn’t thought about it – but if you are in need & I have them available I’m sure things can be worked out, we’re all in this together eh!

Fantastic set-up. I owned the 1999 bassboat blue frame but it was a size too small 19" when I need a 21" —
Also I keep looking for 21" frames on ebay, craigslist etc, they seem rarer than the 17" & 19" – anyone else notice this?
Greetings, long time lurker – first time registered poster
Currently have 1 built 1997 Homegrown Killer Tomato Red, decked out with an XTR/XT mix & orginal fork (slowly dying) and a 1998 21" bassboat red frame still in bubble wrap with an XT crank, Thompson Seatpost & Chris king Headset.
Regarding the Stickers — I have a couple of sets of the diamond stickers from the 1998/1999 frame sets amongst a bunch of other homegrown stickers, schwinn downtube stickers & some Yeti downtube stickers..
