Oh boy those decals from the earlier homegrowns are tough to find. In the interest of preservation you might just consider a silicon based polish—you might be surprised how the finish can turn out with some modern chemicals. But nothing abrasive, and be careful you don’t lift the edges. Those decals look like they’re in great shape.

The stencil logo was always my favorite, and I don’t think they used them after that intro year.

Upside to the fullies with the smaller pivot is you can rebuild it with pretty off-the-shelf stuff, if I recall correctly.

Hey guys Kustom Kaps updated their website to reflect the avaiability of the Homegrown logo. Nice to be ahead of the curve thanks to livernose. 🙂

I don’t have a single one of these in my collection. They must have made these during the later Homegrown years, when I had gotten out of collecting.

The guy has the artwork now, so he advised he can make more, but the price will be more than the ones we’re getting now. I think they are $16 each, but not sure.

Well it all sounds good. Marginal price increase makes no difference to me, so however it works out easiest, and definitely still in for multiples of each color.

I don’t think Schwinn made them in blue, but it’d look great as a finishing touch on a bass boat.

I’ll let you know when I receive them. The guy still has to make them and ship them to me. He sent the photo to me to get my approval before making them. The one on the left is the original.

Livernose this is rockin! I’ve got my cash at the ready so just let me know when to send.

Also: What needs to happen to get some made in blue?

Well aside from just scouting around here every now and then, the other thing I might suggest is Craigslist, but possibly from other cities. In the past I’ve had some luck finding one in SoCal and convincing the guy to ship it to me. I arranged it ahead of time with an area shop there I was familiar with, so all he had to do was roll it into the shop and they packed it up and shipped it up to me.

Oh wait I actually had a point to that story: His original listing was “local only/pickup only” but I sweetalked him into it, so if you see a listing it’s always worthwhile to enquire.

I think a lot of Schwinns ended up in places like Cal, and Colorado (since they were building them there) and Portland/PNW. I onced picked up a Homegrown frameset from a pawnshop in Portland for $75, because they probably thought it was a department store bike:

Oy ain’t that a pissah! I’ve had a few slip through my hands due to timing; always sucks.

Several years ago, I managed to track down a NOS unfinished and unassembled frameset:

I wanted to get the frame ball burnished before assembling, and tracked down a shop in Southern California to take care of it for me. Got the frame to them, and like 10 years later I haven’t heard a damn thing back.

In the words of Nike: Just Do It

You want to look for slop in the pivot, which is notoriously hard to fix. However, recently one of the friendly users here (runzoff) did some legwork to track down how to get new pivot hardware from the guy who made them:
http://bonustomato.com/forum/general-stuff/1675

The rear shock might be cashed out. It might be challenging to find a replacement, but there’s also another thread here talking about possible subs:
http://bonustomato.com/forum/shop/1712

You might have some luck rebuilding the original shock, I’ve had success in the past pulling apart the Rock Shox variant. Never tried to service a Fox.

Look for excessive chainsuck damage, and otherwise the frame being square. Look around the headtube—you don’t want one that’s been endo’d (too much). Cracks in paint and stuff is sure giveaway, but even look for more subtle signs of damage.

Here’s the update on the stem caps. I have been going back and forth a few times with the design because the guy ended up not having the artwork. He has the design pretty close, but I am sending him an original stem cap so he can dial it in. This is taking longer than  I wanted but, hopefully it’s going to be worth the wait. I will keep you updated.

Sweet just let me (us) know. Good things come to those who wait.

I posted this on the facebook group but I know some people here aren’t on there.
Just got this today. Wondering if I’m the first with a HG tat?

Nice—that’s commitment. If I saw someone in a bar with this, it’d be drinks on me.
