I was going to order 10 for a better price , 5 red and 5 black. I can let you have one for cost once shipping is factored in. I’m not going to order until next week.
If you’re looking for people to go in on a group buy you can count me in for two, of each color. No sweat pay palling costs in advance to facilitate process. ;). Just let me know—no big rush on my end.
I loved my Super V and if i was a cannondale superfan i would have kept it. There amazing with a Prophet swingarm and fox rear shock.
That’s legit. My experience has with the V’s have been with much lower spec’d ones and/or ones that weren’t tuned properly, so maybe I got a bad sample.

Dan Shust from kustomcaps emailed back and will make the tomato caps. He says he has the artwork, just order them under “fully kustom caps”.
Oh that’s sweet I might have to place an order. A black one has managed to elude my collection all these years so this might be perfect.

Moby, So true. The sweetspot with an air shock rides very similar to an Epic. With a little body english the shock can lock-out or be full floating without flipping a switch or relying on valve trickery. People say the carbon HG at 6lbs is heavy when in fact the weight is the same as a epic alloy and a C-Dale superV with Risse air shock i weighed a little while back.
The weight discussion is a non-issue. The HG framesets were amongst the lightest at the time. I think haters used to bring that up when they ran out of other things to pick on.
Those Cannondales were definitely pigs though. More downhilling, and less XC style. Horrible to pedal uphills.

MemberInteresting option. Unless there’s copyright issues regarding the image? It’s probably still under trademark protection.

MemberI think the SweetSpot bikes were (and still are) underappreciated. Still trying to figure out exactly why—I mean, of course it’s individual preference but I’ve always felt the variable shock rate was a smart implementation for a suspension design. Some of those full suspension designs were boing boing bob-city.
Livernose, that’s been my experience as well regarding the caps. I think new conditioned ones in packages can sell for around $50 day in and day out. $10 is really cheap for a used one—someone scored.
A few years ago, there was a shop around me that had a bunch laying around from being an old Schwinn dealer. I picked up a handful at about a buck a piece.Want to double your money?

rotfl I think at last count they were all accounted for; sorry. ;-)
Are they the proper size? I ordered a set a few years back and they were WAY OFF on size. Much larger than the originals. I used the little tomato decals but still have the others in the drawer.
Ok, well I just did a compare and contrast with some of my bikes, and the Factory decals (at least the downtube logo and top tube text) seem pretty spot on in terms of size, with the exception of the seatstay decals. Those were a little bigger than the originals.moby

Christopher and I traded tomato clamps and it worked out for us both. My lose clamp works for him and his tight clamp works for me. Better having the clamps on bikes rather than sitting in a toolbox or drawer.

lolz that’s sweet I love it when things just ‘work out.’

Book idea is pretty interesting…haven’t had much luck tracking down riders but could still give all that a shot one of these years.

I think the time might be right; it’s been long enough that a lot of us old grumps are starting to get nostalgic, and half those old-school racers are on Twitter now, and the other half Facebook. You’ve got a great stash of primary catalog materials–that’s already like half the work right there. There would probably be some companies that we could get involved–all these guys have marketing and PR departments that are supposed to do this kind of stuff. I’m sure we can twist some arms and at least get photos of vintage team and race gear–maybe we can even score interviews and stuff along the way.
The trick is to make them track us down, and not the other way. 😉

I’ll have to find the picture of my 97 Factory frame on the mantle. Happened to be the home decor at the time and our wedding photographer thought that was ridiculous.
Well, I don’t got a mantle.

Took me 6 years of looking for that frame to pop up. I probably paid a little too much but I really wanted one and that one was mint.
Well I ain’t tacky enough to ask what you paid, but if you think about the fact that these are all made by hand with super high end materials in the USA and they ain’t makin’ anymore, it’s probably a downright bargain compared to anything you’d find made by some robot (overseas) today selling for tons of money.
The bass boat paints elevate them to the next level. I’m actually really surprised that a Giant or Trek hasn’t co-opted the paint job. I bet it’s too expensive to do in volume.

Man you need to make a book! Like a big, oversized coffeetable book featuring the new-er Schwinns. I bet you have industry contacts to make it interesting, get a forward written by Richard Schwinn, feature some opinion pieces from big riders from back in the day, then throw the whole thing up on Kickstarter.
I’ve had more than one person tell me they’d really like to learn more about the later Schwinn’s after seeing my collection, and I invariably send them here. For some reason, everyone thinks Schwinn died in the 60’s….
