KeymasterFor modded Homegrowns:
People have also been posting some SS conversions and other customs in the “Homegrowns you’ve grown” forum.
We’ll see how that goes and maybe go with a review section, but I think you can get better info from MTBR.
Based on the hits and origins thereof I don’t know that there will be enough interest in all the other Schwinn models, and I think they’ve got that covered at Schwinn’s own forums. That’s not to say I might not add the others but Homegrown stuff is the definite priority, especially until I can get the rest of the info on here.

KeymasterOne thing I’ve had good luck with is just setting up an automatic search for “Schwinn Homegrown.” You used to have to give it Homegrown and Home Grown but I guess there were enough showing up on the bay that they figured it out. This way you get an email daily provided something new is listed.

KeymasterHuh, very interesting. I’ll have to check my old emails to see if Mark, former project manager for the Homegrown line, had any more info, but he definitely said they were Topkey and I’d hope he would know.
I wonder if that’s just because the rear triangle was at least American-made. Of course, they could have just been playing the same old game played by other manufacturers with labeling frames as American made when they were definitely not.

KeymasterBased on the rear triangle design and the smaller pivot, it seems to be a 1995. The pivot size was increased for 1996 and used in a different configuration.

KeymasterThe word from the guys at Schwinn is that the All-Mountain Homegrowns were made by Topkey in Taiwan, like the thermoplastic Project Underground. Sweet ride either way.

KeymasterThanks for the compliment on the site-just getting started really and a long way to go but we’ll get there.
Please tell me you shanked the people that asked you about your Wal-Mart bike with the sweet kit. |(

KeymasterI think the system wasn’t coping well with the spaces in the image title, but all appears well right now.

KeymasterLooks like the base model Homegrown frame made by Control Tech, as you’ve ascertained already. That is the frame that was used for the Homegrown ESP, XT, and LXT models. While it’s not a true Yeti frame it’s still an excellent hardtail frame made in the US that’s just a touch heavier than the Yeti. It will still make for a sweet ride should you decide to keep it.
Sorry the images and catalogs were down on the site but they’re back now.
I’m also hoping to improve the ability to navigate, edit, and generally use the forums.
