MemberI would only sell to someone from this forum. Theese would only go to a good home. Im not going to be ready to ride for this summer, it just sux looking at theese two bikes just sitting there. Thanks for all the support,, its not about the cash, im doin well on that end. Very depressing looking at a garage full of toys I wont be able to use this spring and summer. You guys make me regret posting this but I find joy in your care and concern. It really sux feeling helpless, maybe I hastily jumped the gun on wanting to sell them, but your responses are definitly uplifting my spirits. No your right, there is no goodby, im two weeks into my injury and already im two months ahead in my physical therapy. Maybe this post was just a cry out for support. Thank you all, your thoughts will push me harder towards my recovery. Doug

MemberSorry for not coming around. Unfortunatly the same state park I ride in is also the one I go fishing for trout in the spring and fall. Heres a pic of my Project Underground. I’ll upload better pics tomorrow. It needed all new stickers and paint. Needless to say it was my first time with a spray gun but im happy with the way it turned out.

MemberSorry for not posting pics yet. Im happy with the bike although the rims where out of whack so theyre at the LBS getting tweeked now. I had to toss the ESP gripshifts, they where wiped out. The dirt covers on them where cracked and pretty much unusable. Also the XT brake levers where really beat so they got tossed too. Well for $50 on ebay I got Avid single digits and Alivo 8 speed shifters. I know theyre lower grade but thats all I could find in 8 speed. Everyting else on ebay that was 8 speed xt-xtr had stripped bolts or they where pretty beat up. It has White Industries cranks and hubs. Im not concerned about the hubs, the LBS said they where good to go, but the cranks im a little worried about. I would like to pull them off and check out the bottom bracket to see if it needs to be replaced. The bike sat for a while, I woul also like to upgrade the headset, its old school with the open bearings. If anyone knows a good headset for the bike let me know how I can go about changing it and what tools I would need. As for the cranks, if anyone knows If it would be a good idea to upgrade them, tell me. I didnt want to go 9 speed couse the cassete looks good but when I toast it, I’ll go 9 speed. Basically I want to strip it down and get it repainted and im going to a sticker place to have new ones made up. I will need a longer stem, but all and all im going to keep the bike super lite. My other Factory Comp is my comfort bike with long travel shocks and a USE suspension seatpost. This bike is super light,, lightest bike I have ever seen. I contacted the seller and the guys about the same size as me, so I have no worries on wrecking the carbon frame. As if my Factory wasnt fast enough, this thing is going to be lightning fast. Feel free on giving me any tips on upgrading the cranks and headset. Thanx

MemberIts Here,, just uboxed it and put it together. Has SRAM ESP (boo). The left sram is cracked so im going to either upgrade if I can find XT or XTR 8 speed shifters. The left gripshift ESP is cracked but the rear SRAM derailure is carbon so that will definitely stay. Has XT brakes and levers but I think im going to look for some old Avid single digits. The bike has a SCARAB front fork that is so slim and light so im going to look into finding info on it in case it needs rebuilding. The headset is AC or something like that, and if I replace it wich I should being that its old school exposed bearings, i’ll have the LBS do it couse I dont want to screw it up taking the cups in and out. It has White Industries Hubs front and back. The back hub sounds like a Chris King hub and its super thick in diamiter, like two inches. Also has White Industies cranks. Dont know nothing about them so if anyone has any info let me know. Seat is original with the Tomato embroidered but its fugly. If anyone knows where to find 8 speed shifters let me know couse all I see is 9 speed on ebay. Also,,im 215 so if thats to heavy for me to ride this carbon frame let me know so I dont destroy it. Thanx pics tomorrow.

MemberIve seen a couple people viewed my idea witout any responses. To keep theese classic bikes goin, I really think there should be a mod section on this forum. Id really like to see what some of you guys have done to upgrade your Homegrowns to keep them up to date. Anybody upgrade their Homegrowns with newer components? Id lik to see some sick rides.

MemberI’ll keep you in mind surf, im afraid im going to fall in love with this one. I was really looking to buy a non Yeti bike for my friends to ride when they come down to visit. Almost all of the Homegrowns ive seen on ebay where listed at alot more than what I spent on this thing. My only issue is that its a carbon frame and I dont know if this bike can handle my 215lb weight. If anyone can let me know if im too heavy to ride it, I would apprecite anyones input. I will definitly sell it rather than destroy it.

MemberEven better news. I got the bike for $400. It was aprox $125 to ship. The seller credited me $50. Dont let that Homegrown go,,be patient. My bies awesome,, the paint chipping is really bumbing me out. Well I know where to find you if I ever need to sell it. And you know the price too. I coud even ship it cheaper. $65 Fed Ex and the bike shop strips it down and boxes it all for the same price.

MemberNow that I got another Homegrown in route, I think im going to strip my bike down and get it repainted this winter. My bass boat blue metal flake is chipping off big time. I got a guy that paints my Harley and hes top notch. He took a look at it and even told me he could paint on the checkered flag. Only thing is I gotta get another set of Schwinn stickers and a couple tomatoes. I might have to buy a catalog and have a sticker shop copy the two Homegrown logos near the seat tube. I guess its the age of the bike cousing the paint to chip. This cat is good, he does all my work. He even comes to my house and does touch ups once a year on my Harley. Hence I ride that thing like an animal.

MemberHow many do you have Blue Beetle?? I see myself turning into a Homegrown addict myself. OCD is good and bad at the same time. I refuse to buy anythng that is not a Homegrown. I ride Allaire St Park in Wall NJ. Breille bike shop has demos there from time to time. I tried a couple of their bikes and I was very disapointed. Once you go Homegrown you would be silly to ride anything else IMO. I know technology has changed with less moving parts but newer bikes have one good point out of ten. A Homegrown does it all A++. Fits like a glove.
Ruffway25
MemberDo you think I stole it?? $400 seems pretty cheap IMO. Its the carbon fiber one. Story behind it is the guy was a sales rep for Schwinn and got the frame for free, so his wife says. Im assuming that line came in frame only and the parts on it are off of another Homegrown of that specific era. The only new part on it is a Fox fork. I know its a Control Tech frame made in Tiawan. It wasnt exactly what I was looking for but I stumbled on the auction in the last 20 minutes. I was actually looking for a non Yeti Homegrown to have for an extra bike if one of my friends want to come over and ride but I saw alot of other Homegrowns for sale for way more than what I won it for. In your opinion, am I too heavy to ride this carbon bike?? Im 215lbs on my way down to 200lbs. I dont want to wreck it. If it isnt for me, I will gladly sell it to you especialy or anyone else on this website only. Once again id like to thank you and everyone on this site for resurecting my interest in hitting the trail and getting my cardio back up to speed. Needless to say this womans husband is now a rep for giant and for some reason im geting the vibe that either hes unable to ride or maybee their marraige split couse I cant see why anyone would give this gem of a bike away. Its been years since I got my Homegrown on the trail and its a dream. If I wasnt so out of shape you would think im a pro when im flyin down the trail or climbing. Yes, Homegrowns climb like no other period. Even with the boat anchor of a front shock I put on along with the Sun riser bars and Sumo suspension seatpost the bike is still amazingly light. I traded the weight for comfort but it still flys. I shouldnt have jumped the gun on buying the Tora shock. It has loads of travel but I should have waited and put a 29er shock and 29er front rim on it and made a 69/96er. The only guys out on the trail that kick my ass ride 29er’s. They make it look easy with little effort, but whos to say that mountain bikeing is supposed to be easy.

MemberI was out riding the other day and another guy had one.It was a black 99 and it was the LX 6061 version. He refuesed to give his up either at any cost. If I didnt buy a new Tora fork for mine I would have made it a 96/69er. Oh well. Maybee I got to buy another one to do that right after I get my Project Underground that I just picked up on ebay for #400 bucks.
