thanks, but want to let these socks and the shirt go together. keeping the other pairs.
smailsteveMemberThis is beautiful. Great craftsmanship, great style, great dedication.
Now we need a photo of you getting some Japanese dirt on this awesome bike!
smailsteveMemberlivernose – what’s your review of the adaptor you have pictured in the previous post? Had a chance to install/ride with it yet?
smailsteveMemberCane Creek shocks work well. Cloud 9 is tops, but other models work too. CC can custom build you one to spec. They’ve done a lot for the FS frames that need the 5.5/1.25 setup.
smailsteveMemberMaybe you have one of the early bearing designs, but assuming you have bushings (not bearings), are the originals the metal or nylon type bushings? Post a pic so we can see.
January 2, 2011 at 2:59 am in reply to: Redtomatoman’s method for eliminating slop in a FS pivot #3032smailsteveMemberWill have to try that the next time around.
When overhauling my 97 Factory FS (this model uses the aluminum bushings with a red teflon coating), I thought for sure the bushings would be worn out and in need or replacement. To my suprise, they were like new.
BUT, what I found is that the bushings had worn away some aluminum on on side of the swingarm. Why the swingarm got it and the bushings didn’t, I have no idea. Rather than trying to fix the swingarm, I replaced it. But that acetate solution could work for it too. Post a pic to show it (if it shows up at all).
smailsteveMemberI’ve been mostly through the udpate process. Rear shock that is great is the Cane Creek Cloud 9. It’s 5.5 eye to eye and has 1.25 of stroke. They can custom build you a new one to that spec if they don’t have them in stock. Other Cane Creek rear shocks with those specs will do the trick as well.
I’ve been running a RockShox Reba Team set at 120mm in the front. Great fork, but when I get it overhauled I’ll probably have it set to 100 to have it more balanced. Not that big of an issue. I just swapped my stem position with a few of the spacers to get it to feel just right.
9 or 10 speed is up to you. No limits there. There are lots of 10 speed and 2×10 options that are lower cost than the SRAM XX now.
smailsteveMemberI second the cane creek cloud nine. It makes you feel like you have a completely new bike.
If you call CC, they can custom build you one based on the frame. For the HG full suspensions, it is a 5.5 eye to eye and I believe a 1.25 inch stroke for about 3-3.5 inches of travel. Adjustability on the Cloud Nine is great. If you want more or less travel they could probably build it to your spec.
smailsteveMemberThanks for posting the image with the torque specs.
By any chance, is this part of a larger Schwinn service manual that we could submit to John at BT for scanning (like the catalogs he’s already done)?
