Well, those things were listed at almost $6,000 when they were new. But it seems that mtn bikes don’t seem to hold their value very well, when newer technology comes out. Especially after 10 years.
I’d keep sending them your offer. Especially if it’s getting toward the end of the auction with no bids.
I’ve never seen a white one before! And no Schwinn headbadge, just a tomato sticker. Is this a re-paint, or is this legit?
Yep, looks like a 97. I don’t think there’s really any difference from a 98 though, other than the paint.

It’s a 1999 Homegrown. Look here. The one on the bottom, labeled as just ‘Homegrown’:

I’m not sure about serial numbers, but 99% of the time, Homegrowns can be dated by the paint job and frame styles. The white panel on the seat tube means ’99. It was the only year they did that. The flag decals on the top tube and downtube mean ’98 or ’99. And since it’s black, not a bass boat color, the ’99 Homegrown is the only model like that.
Someone got a killer deal on that 98 Factory. That bike was very untouched and all original. In my opinion, $850 for the 99 Elite was a little high. It’s only a 6061 frame (although any Homegrown is sweet). Usually only the factory frames go that high.
I can’t tell if it’s black or bass boat green. Either way it’s a ’99. Built by Control Tech, 6061 Aluminum.

Hopefully they will work with my ’99 frameset, the frames look nearly identical.Man, I love that bike. Too bad it’s not just the frameset, I doubt I could afford the whole thing right now.

I hope this isn’t one of our members here. If the local bike shop estimated it at $3500, then they surely would’ve bought it right out of his hands for $2200? Heck, my 98 XT was NOS and was only $1500 two years ago.
