MemberHey there: I’ll go through different builds depending on the season (or my mood is at the time). I’ve had this built up pretty traditionally before but had some extra parts laying around with the fat bike stuff and put this together on a whim. Bike acts a little differently with just a single point of suspension, but I’ve found it’s way more predictable handling, and there’s less downsides in pedaling since there’s no suspension fork that absorbs pumping action. The front wheel is just a standard 26″ fat bike front (135 mm axle) with a disc brake, but it’s still big enough to provide some shock absorption. A side benefit is it’ll float over sand and snow.
Bike’s a medium (17″) with a Fox Alps 4R for the rear shock.

MemberWell it’s been a while since I’ve done any real trail riding, but from just tooling around the bike feels nice and tight. I dropped a bunch of weight going to a rigid fork and 1x drivetrain. Front end tracks real predictably.
I’ve been riding Sweetspot bikes for a while (since an original Klein Mantra in the mid 90’s) so I might be used to the suspension action than most.

Membertee hee you and me both. I had to jump on this when I found it. They are getting pretty rare now…

MemberOh man I feel your pain. I went through this entire ordeal a little while ago. It’s a very particular size. I couldn’t find a replacement on McMaster. I got super lucky and I ended up finding some unused pivot hardware from another Schwinn owner.
Anytime I see a set on eBay they always sell for $$$$.

MemberThanks for making these Alex. I think the marginal weight difference between a ti skewer and a cromoly one is a non-issue for most people. Personally I prefer a cromoly skewer. Wears better over time.

MemberThanks man! Sometimes I get inspired.
Is Rich the gentleman that’s currently selling the decals on Ebay? If so that’s him, and I’ve been super happy with the decals.
I get comments all the time riding this one around. It turned out to be a looker.

MemberI just got a set and put them on. They’re sweet–the colors are great and the vinyl is way thicker than the original decals.
moby
MemberIt’s all good; fortunately I picked it up on the cheap so no big loss. I’ma tuck it away until I grow three inches. 🙂

MemberWell not sure what to do about this, but turns out the frame is a size too large for me…

MemberJust really excellent timing. I noticed it on Ebay and I think everybody else just overlooked it because there’s a bunch of frames for sale right now. This one just happened to be in my size.

MemberHOLY COW I’m in for at least a couple of sets if this happens. If they’re the full color waterslide type decals, I’d be willing to pay a PREMIUM for a couple of sets.
