tomatoadminKeymasterThe main risks are that a poor cut could leave a stress riser that could propagate into a crack, or if you pick a seatpost that’s got variable wall thickness (don’t recall which ones anymore) and you cut it down, it could be clamped in an area with thinner walls. Both are pretty unlikely but things to be aware of.
tomatoadminKeymasterAre you looking for a dropper post or just a shorter post? A dropper is touch because I believe only Gravity Dropper had them in 26.8, and you might still have length issues relative to the shock/swingarm depending on how far it’s inserted.
Otherwise, you can check ebay and the like for cut seatposts, or DIY with tube cutters, a hacksaw and steerer tube cutter, or if you know someone that’s got a larger lathe. Disclaimer: DIY or someone else’s cut post obviously come with some risk…
tomatoadminKeymasterEric nailed the ID and everything about the bike (except that the blue SID definitely looks way better, since I just found one). *good*
tomatoadminKeymasterYeah, years ago it was a bit of a pain to post photos here and by the time I upgraded software a lot of people left for the Facebook group. Working on the new and improved site still but that will probably be the last update unless things change.
tomatoadminKeymasterGood call on that. Probably the most subtle difference between non-factory and factory frames.
tomatoadminKeymasterIt’s got the stamped dropouts, not forged, and extruded chainstay yoke, though.
tomatoadminKeymasterThe blue one is definitely a bit of an oddball, but bassboat blue makes everything better. Good luck with the sales.
tomatoadminKeymasterWhat, no gold plating? *fool*
tomatoadminKeymasterYou do like a unicorn, eh? There was a pair of AT-3s on FB the other day but they went fast.
tomatoadminKeymasterThey were made in Taiwan, but I don’t recall if it was Giant, Merida, or one of the other big frame makers.
tomatoadminKeymasterGotcha. Will be interesting to see if there’s any rub due to tire/rim flex.
I was going to say the frame was looking good blasted!
tomatoadminKeymasterHuh, I guess all the narrow tire requirements I was remembering were before 1X was a thing. *fool*
Now I need to check my parts inventory and get some tires…
tomatoadminKeymasterHa, I feel that pain! *drinks*
tomatoadminKeymasterBud’s a sharp dude. Helped us out a ton and didn’t even call me a dumbass (to my face, at least). Last I heard he’s still at Q.
Are the top tube decals you have exactly like the ones in the picture or do you have any of the homegrown factory ones? I also might be in for epicenter decals depending on which ones they are.
tomatoadminKeymasterPretty cool that you got to save some decals. Not so cool that you were there when they shut down Bedford. When I was with Zipp I worked with Bud K a fair amount and it sounded like a pretty depressing time.
