Thanks Tailendcharlie.  I can send the Solidworks file to anybody that wants it.

I have the down tube SCHWINN decals, and a top tube Stinger “S” decal.  New headbadge and a Easton for Schwinn badge.  Nothing that says Homegrown yet. crying

Here’s how it looks after 2 coats of glitter.  Might be around 6 coats to finish, then decals, then clear.

I finally got back to work on the frame.  My wife and dad both said go with the holographic blue, so that’s what it will be.  I cleaned off the remainder of old paint with a razorblade and sanded the whole frame with 180 grit sandpaper.  Next came 2 coats of grey primer (I had it on the shelf, so didn’t buy black primer).  Talked myself into starting with a turquoise base coat, also because I had a can of it on my shelf.  I hit it with a clear mixed with the glitter (no pic of that yet) and realize it will take many, many coats.

3 things make me a Schwinn Homegrown fan: 1-Murica, 2-The Ride, 3-The Bling

The re-spray will give it the Bling it failed to get at birth.  Livernose, those are Chris King hubs wink.  I’m sorry to say that in a moment of weakness I sold the Titec Ti stem crying.  I do still have the Titec Ti seatpost.  I dropped the seat down in that picture for my daughter to ride it, and put that cushy gel seat on it.  At the time, it was the best choice for a fast “road” bike I had for her.  She has since been “upgraded” to a real road bike, which meant the Homegrown started collecting dust bunnies.  Time for a makeover and back out on the dance floor.

I totally understand the horrific thought of “killing” a true Bass Boat paint job, but this frame was an exception for me.  This would have qualified as a “second” quality paint job had I seen it on a bike shop floor.  As bad of an example of Orange as you could find.

I had full XTR M950 groups on most of my bikes for 20 years. I finally made the switch to newer 10 and 11 speed SLX and XT and I couldn’t be happier. That old XTR was great in its day, but today’s stuff is really just as good IMO. I’m not buying XTR anymore because the price is outrageous.

A couple days ago I rode in the mountains on a 1×11 SLX setup and it shifted perfectly. Never dropped a chain either.

I understand the desire to keep these Homegrowns period correct, but if you’re actually going to ride them I see no problem putting modern components on them. Most NW 1 speed chainrings are made for skinnier 9/10 speed chains anyway. The 8 speed chain will move side to side on the teeth causing early wear.

I’ve got more cups available if anybody has any interest.  20oz size is $40, and 30oz size would be $50 and plus shipping.  Now, I do have a black 30oz with a black decal that is too dark IMO so I’ll let it go for $35 obo.  The 30oz blue/white is spoken for but I can get more made.  Custom colors still available by request at same asking price.

So, a free frame and were able to get the XTR parts and a SID for the build from a $20 thrift store bike?  You hit the Lottery with that one!!  Looks like a 21″ frame.  If you decide to get a different fork I would be interested in buying that one off you.  All my spare forks have the steer tubes cut too short to use on your frame so I can’t help you there.  I don’t know if/how to rebuild the SID, but i think I could use those good looking lower legs on another fork of mine.

You are correct on using a chainring bolt on the XTR bar clamp.  I had to do that in the past myself.

We can’t see the photo showing a seatpost.

19″ is not my preferred size.  I’ll remove my “dibs” and let somebody else claim it.  If nobody comes forward in a couple days I WILL buy it if the price is right and you can box and ship it.  Rather I have it because I know what it is then somebody abusing it because they think its’ a Wally World Schwinn.

    Thanks,

Like to place dibs IF it measures 17″ from center of crank to top of seat tube.

I fear that measurement will be 19″ though.

Waiting to make offer until I see the whole frame in 1 pic.

    Thanks,

Larger 30oz sizes are on deck to get made.

Next batch of original 20oz size getting finished up.  I’ll post pics when done of all sizes and colors.  This keeps the neighborhood wives busy.

Tried to sandblast frame with a cheapo setup and it didn’t work well at all.  Went back to chemical stripping and that didn’t work any better getting those small spots off.  Finally tried a straight razor blade and “shaved” many spots off.  Used sandpaper to even out surface after spot removal.  It’ll be a couple more hours of work before ready for primer.

My wife reminded me that green/gold would look like Green Bay Packers so I’m back to either solid green or green with white pearl.

The mug that says “Jeff” looks to be a 30oz Yeti Rambler size.  The cup on the left is a 20oz Rtic.  I corrected the listing above from 24oz to 20oz.

The cup on the left would have fit your cup holder too before the custom paint.  After the paint is applied to the cup on the right, it might not fit your cup holder anymore.

Sorry about the size error. I can do the design on any size. Let me know a size and color and I’ll get it to you below cost.

I prefer to run front derailleur cable around head tube which would place it furthest on drive side.

Rear derailleur cable also around head tube with rear brake cable, but using middle stops.

I’ve never been a fan of having the cable rub hard on head tube.
