Hey Nathan, long time, I am currently the high bidder. I have a limit however that I don’t want to pay over. Not very high since this is not a “Factory” from 1996, and it is exactly the same frame as my orange BB. It sure is pretty though!!! If your willing to go higher than my bid (???+sellers 40 S&H), I would consider purchasing and forwarding it to you. I also found an extra Razor Rock link that I could send you for the Straight 8 frame I sold you last year, if you want it. I have no need for it now.
BTW, that is me selling the Banger swingarm on Ebay. If there is any interest from a member of this site, I am open for all trades. What you got???? I need an 80mm travel or less fork for another project right now.

Not trying to insult or be rude. The chainstay yoke appears to be the machined style, not forged. The Factory version is made of 7000 series aluminum, and not 6061. The Factory seat-stays are radically tapered down to a small diameter at drop-outs. Not certain of this, but none of my Factory frames have re-inforcement at headtube/downtube jucntion. Not sure of this either, but I have not seen a Factory version hardtail of that generation with disc mounts. Maybe the original owner was mistaken in his description to you? Anyone else please comment. I am not the expert.
I have and Ihome 2Go which lets me listen to my Ipod while it blasts out from the water bolltle holder. Lately I have been on an Alice in Chains or Stone Temple Pilots kick. I am sure I look like a fool riding a bike and singing along. I tone it down when cars are nearby, but jam out the rest of the time.
So sorry to hear about your injury. As an mechanical engineering major, only 8 weeks to go until I’m legal, I have access to a machine shop. I could possibly mill some special brake/shifter levers for you. Let me know what needs to be done.
I’m also with moby, if you just need some cash for medical bills right now, I would be more than happy to join in a fundraiser.
I would like to put my 2 cents in, and if others would do the same, we might just be able to get a handle on the whole Serial Number question. Simply judging from the photo of your bike, migeorgeco, you are in posession of a Yeti built Homegrown Factory with serial # HS6301 which should be from 1996 as seen in the catalogs.
Here is what I have to offer:
1995 Homegrown Factory: HS4014
1998 Homegrown BB Orange: 988E01773
The 1995 serial number is on the BB shell as is the 1998 serial number. Those numbers were made by different stamping machines, or whatever you call them. Let me just say the font and size is different between the two. The fact that your serial number is on the dropout while mine are on the BB must mean something. You may have helped me identify that my frame was made by Control Tech. My “Factory” also differs from yours in the fact that your cable stops appear to be on top of the top tube. The cable stop placement on my 1995 “Factory” is at the 2 o’clock position, while the 1998 Homegrown is straight up.
Another difference between my personal frames is the Epicenter seatstay and an obvious difference between the size of the welds.

As a metallurgical guy myself (over-rated weld inspector), I can say that these were not made in the same building. Sorry for the bad photos.
Let’s try and get the active group together and see if we can’t pin down some certainties in the frame serial number question. Come on guys.

That is a great bike John. Just thought I would put my name first in line for any chance to take it off your hands. It looks to be a 17″ right? How did you find it in Germany? Must be an interesting story.

BTW, you can set-up Yakaz to give you alerts when a listing such as “Schwinn Homegrown” occurs. It will give you an alert in your email. I have recieved numerous alerts about Craigslist stuff, but it doesn’t seem to alert me when something on Ebay pops up.
Also, on Ebay there are some Homegrown stickers for $100 and $75, and a set of grips for $75. That guy is out of line with those ridiculous prices. I love the Homegrown’ and everything it represents, but I’m not going to pay that for accesories. I’d rather ride a Homegrown with a “Krylon” paint job than hang a 10 out of 10 on the wall.
I will modify the pic with photoshop and change the name slightly. Maybe I have done something wrong. Is there a way for me to delete the “thumbnails” in my account that say Schwinn Straight 6? I’ve tried about 4 or 5 times to upload the same image and it is counted in “my thumbnails”, but there is not a viewable image. It is something that I cannot change in My account. Not a big deal, but would surely clean things up for me.
Hey blue beetle, I have a similar black shirt, but mine has USA in the tomato on the front.
I was wearing that very shirt on a ride that caused the accident which put me in the ER. The bike in question was the 1995 red and black sweet spot. I sold the bike after the accident. The next buyer rode the bike for about a week until the frame cracked. Schwinn sent him a 19″ Homegrown FS (his request) with bass boat green front and polished rear. I was bummed for myself but happy for him. Then guess what….. He took the brand new frame, stripped the bass boat green paint, and had the whole thing painted black. The guy was a lawyer and had the money to get it done professionally and it did look good, but man…….Bass Boat Green…..
Oh yeah, I still have the scar.
