MemberI do not speak for everybody and this comes from myself and my belief in the bikes, but let me try and say this for the group. We are all here at BonusTomato because we have all been bitten by the ride of these Schwinn frames. In my opinion, we are all similar to alien abduction survivors. We are drawn together in this forum due to an unexplainable feeling of bliss that comes from riding these bikes. To those who have not experienced a Homegrown it is not understandable or even comprehensible. But those of us who are lucky enough to have felt it, the feeling is a revelation. I myself drifted from the Homegrown line for a few years and thought nothing of it until I rode another one. Why did I ever waste those years without a Homegrown?
It is the ride of the bike that has brought us here. The collection and accompanying preservation is second but the ride comes first. It is more than just a “blue collar” Yeti fetish because many of us are also drawn to the Banger line of bikes as well. The Bangers’ have no relation to Yeti, but more so to Mert Lawwill. It was a golden time in mountain biking (5-6 years) that cannot be recreated, but can still be enjoyed due to the fact that these bikes are still available, plus yours is the birth of the breed with those asymmetric chainstays.
I understand that it may be hard to get used to the canti’s. When I worked at a bike shop, there was ‘David’ who was able to tune in those canti’s to make them work as good or better than V-brakes. You might need to ask around your town to find out who the ‘David’ of your city might be. Get your bike rolling and hit the trail. Any scratches you get, just consider them battle wounds and ribbons of honor. Better you to have the story to tell how those scratches got there than anyone else.

MemberThat is a great looking bike. It is hard to believe that a bike of that caliber could make it this long without seeing the dirt. I feel your pain about getting it dirty and possibly scratched. Roll of the dice. My eyeballs tell me that is a 19″ frame. Is that correct? I love those Sun CR17 rims. They always got bent and needed replaced, but they sure did look good.

MemberHey lextex, is that your frame back on Ebay? Looks like the exact pics from the previous auction. Any issues with the frame?

MemberI could use 2, but maybe 4 of those Diamond "Homegrown" stickers. I could also use some white downtube decals. Let me know what price you need. These homegrowns with Bass Boat paint do not like to keep their decals intact. The decals were applied after the final clear-coat. Hope to hear back from you WisconsinJay.

MemberGreat looking bike. My only interest, however, is the frame. It would be cheaper to ship as well. Let me know if you are interested and what price your looking for.

MemberI kept the auction on Ebay as long as I could. Yes it is a small frame. You do not see those often, usually mediums. The linkages came with the 20mm hub kit from Razor Rock Racing (R3) which included hub, axle, linkages and floating brake arm. All needed changing due to the 20mm axle. Also requires the use of a bottom bracket tool to install the one of a kind cassette lockring. My pictures did not turn out very good. I need to take a photo class or something.
Anyone else looking at the 17" BBB hard-tail that showed up on Ebay tonight?
bikeric
MemberWell, I just put my 2000 Straight 8 on Ebay. Check it out if you are interested. I would not be opposed to selling it to someone on this site and save the Ebay fees. Partial trades are welcome as well. I like 17" hardtails and 15" or 17" Bangers.

MemberThanks blue72beetle for the jersey pic. I need to check out photobucket or flickr. Emails work good for me right now. I check them both every other day or week or so, unless I’m out riding of course, of course.

MemberHey 2manyschwinns, I would be interested in a 17" banger frame. I am currently watching and waiting to bid on the yellow Straight 6 on Ebay,
but I would definately prefer a bass boat blue banger. I am relatively new to this site so I haven’t got everything down yet, but I have completed one transaction with "nathan". BTW nathan, do you have any pics yet of the Straight 8 build?
To anyone interested, I have a Schwinn Jersey and the Homegrown saddle available to any takers. I just tried the Jersey on and lets just say I need to ride my bike more. It is a size large Giordana. The saddle is not perfect. Its’ had a rump or two on it, but who knows, maybe someone here would be interested. Not sure yet how to add images. I’m using Mozilla Firefox, but the preview said something about Microsoft Internet Explorer. Is that the preferred browser?
