Awesome bike. One day I’ll have one.

Where did you get the new downtube decals?

The frame is from a 1998 Factory XT, but several parts have been swapped.

Just realized search is not indexing, because I couldn’t originally find the recent thread with someone trying to sell one:

It’s not a Homegrown, but shared much of the tech and frame geometry. It’s a 1999 S-40. The frame was made in Taiwan instead of the US and it used lower-price components. Looks to be in great shape.

To post pictures from your computer click on the camera icon at the far right in the toolbar above the text box. Then click on upload to upload your local image, and follow the prompts from there.

To post pictures from elsewhere on the internets click on the tree-like icon immediately to the left of “html” in the toolbar.

This will be much better in the next version of the site.

Schwinn sizing was center to top of seat tube, just so everyone’s clear (I’ve bought 2 19″ frames advertised as 17s this way):

It’s been a while since I saw some prices (actual sale prices, not asking prices) on these guys. Total gues would be $400 with the parts. If you need help posting pictures I can do that for you.

Hmmmm, happy fathers’ day to me? Pretty sure my wife would kill me….but may be worth the chance.

I used nail polish on my ’98 Factory XT and it worked reasonably well. I had to hunt around a bunch to find something that matched and had to experiment a bit with layering various colors. I’m not going to say it looked good but it was better than the silver.

I’ve used 3M film on my ’97 Factory XTR to cover the decals. You need to be careful to not get it dirty prior to installation or you’ll see the edges a bit more easily, but if you don’t know to look for it it’s really not all that obvious. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotchgard_Paint_Protection/Film/

I’ve got a roll at work and can check on thickness tomorrow too if you want.

That’s the good news, the bad news is it’s still a couple weeks out if I’m honest about the time I’ll have for final troubleshooting and transferring a bunch of stuff from the old site to the new version.

I’ll probably throw together a couple logos I was going to work on anyway and see if anyone likes those better than where we’re at now. Hopefully won’t be more than a couple weeks but that depends on how quickly I remember how to use Photoshop.

I’m no guru, just a guy with a website. There’s guys with way more Homegrowns than me (unfortunately!) and I’m sure there’s guys that know more about ’em than me, but thanks for the kind words.

Hadn’t really thought about it-didn’t start this site to make money (that’s why I haven’t done ads so far) but it could be cool to at least pay the hosting and help with my wife, like you said. Something about having a 6 week old has further slowed progress for some reason…

I’ve been toying with a new logo design but haven’t really come up with something I’m happy with. If anyone’s got some ideas for that and has interest I’m sure we could get some stickers made.

onza, Are you the guy on the Facetube page with the red/black Factory hardtail? If Fej doesn’t get you hooked up, let me know and I can give it a go.

I had one up for a while but it was pretty lacking. I’m still ironing out the kinks in the version that will be a part of the site re-vamp.

Like you were speculating, it’s a 1998 Factory XTR, and hence a Yeti bike.

The reference to the extra tomato was at the top of the seatstays. These bikes typically still had the canti brake cable stop locating there, whereas the red Homegrown LXT from 1998 (the one my buddy had) had an extra tomato decal. Check out the differences on this page: http://hornrim.com/websites/bonustomato/?q=node/106

I’m not really a rum guy but I’d say you did quite well for yourself, assuming it wasn’t some super-expensive bottle of rum.
