Nail polish could work for you if it’s just small stuff you want to tackle for now. I don’t know if there’s much available in yellow but back in the day I had some luck even with bass boat blue for a 97 frame. Be prepared for some strange looks from the ladies as you peruse the nail polish aisle if you go that route, though.

You seem like a nice enough guy, Eric, but that BBB Factory isn’t going anywhere…I’ve got some backup bikes I’d sell long before that one.
I do have a 98 Factory XT frame in 17″ that needs a good home, though it’s not in nearly as good condition.

Are you guys thinking that a flickr-type gallery that anybody can post to on here would be the ticket, or something more organized by year and maybe done in a slideshow type thing would be best?

For future reference, the forum cuts anything off that’s wider than 640 pixels, sometimes less. I’m working on trying to get around the formatting issues that occasionally pop up on here.
Since it looks like your bike is otherwise factory stock, it looks like you will need an 8 speed chain. Shimano would likely have been the original chain, but an 8-speed chain from SRAM or KMC would work as well.

I don’t know that anyone has had any luck. There are a couple places that have apparently made decals for paint shops and SSSInk might do so again but they said not for individuals.
My ’98 Factory XT does not have a disc mount, has a forged yoke, and no gusset. I don’t have a picture of the chainstays and this is a poor shot of the BB yoke, but you get the idea.
The disc mount is not called out in the catalog specs while the forged yoke is mentioned. It seems more like a ’99 Elite or Pro based on the specs in the catalogs and the frame itself. The Pro was a toned-down bassboat blue, so perhaps that is the source of the confusion.
There’s certainly been some inconsistencies in the Homegrown lineup, so it would be interesting to hear the backstory on the frame before passing final judgment. Either way, it’s still a sweet frame that looks to be in good shape.

I guess it probably is easy to comment without knowing what you’re really going through in terms of recovery and all, but from my perspective, I’d rather have a garage full of toys to look forward to using once I’m recovered rather than an empty garage.
That’s what I keep telling myself-thought I was going to get out of hand surgery but no dice there so I’ll be off the bike for a while. Either way, hope you find some loving homes if you do end up getting rid of your bikes and that your recovery continues ahead of schedule.
