That is a Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Metal Matrix frame.  Likely from 1995.  It should have a gusset below downtube next to the head tube.  On that gusset will be the foreward cable stops.  If that is the case……Stumpy!!

Welcome gadkinsj.  Above is the link to dew’s 21″ Factory frame.  It is the bass boat red/gold version from 1998.

I am not an expert on the serial number codes, but yours appears to be from the “Factory” variety.  Does the frame have a rear canti standoff?

Thanks for the great picture (bike on the beach).  I’m using it as my screen saver.  Dreaming of the day when the snow is history.

Send it to me and I will dispose of it properly.  Just kidding.  The previous owner must have installed an undersized post and then clamped the frame down tight.  You will find it very difficult to fix.  My experience with that problem on a Homegrown frame (6061): my LBS had a nice reamer/cleaner tool that cleaned up my seat tube to a shiny new finish.  Removed the seat clamp.  Tried the proper 26.8mm post with no success.

Here is the trick……Todd (my hero) installed an old quill stem into the seat tube.  He tightened the stem bolt which expanded the seat tube.  He did this a few times in a few different positions inside the tube.  Warning!!!!!  DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN….  Your not trying to make it fit a 27.2, just a 26.8.

    Good luck.

There has been too much speculation on what this bike is.  Here is the skinny.  It is the 1998 Factory Team bike.  This bike came complete with Full XTR and the first generation 63mm Rock Shox SID.  It was completely outfitted with Titec Titanium cockpit.  Notice the canti boss on seat stay?  That shows that these frames were left overs from 1997.  They were the first frames available in 1998.  Yeti built bike for sure with Easton tubing.  I do not believe that you could buy the frame alone in this color, but that might be wrong.  These did not match the catalog picture of the year (no Toyota or Michelin decals and plain white downtube stickers) which upset me when I bought mine, but I got over it.  Dews bike has had the fork replaced, but all the shifting parts were the correct M951 8 speed parts.  I know that because I bought them  ðŸ˜€

This is not me or my auction.  I would have given you the cap, but I spotted this one for sale.

Sorry it took me so long.  I had no luck finding a black tomato top cap.  Keep up the search, or commission one to be made.  I like the blackout idea your going for.  Sounds mean.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about being sued 😀  Let me go to my check my Homegrown memorabilia stash.  I remember one floating around.  Don’t get your hopes up, I’m just saying I’ll check the stash.  I’ll post back tomorrow.  My family is coming to my house for Xmas so I can’t hide in the garage this evening.  Wish I could.  Ha.  Later, Eric.

I have 2 1998 Bass Boat red hardtail frames.  One is very scratched up and stickers abused.  My plan is to remove the red coat to expose the silver glitter below.  So much has flaked off already it really doesn’t matter.  The other frame is in much better condition and still has the stickers intact.  Both frames are standard Homegrowns and not “Factory”.

Let me know if there is any interest.

Chain Reaction Cycles is showing a closeout on the Fox trunion mount shocks for 4 bangers and Straight 6’s.  First link (500 lb spring) is this:    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38232

cheaper shock (800 lb spring) is this:  http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38235

Seems like a good deal.  Buy them while you still can.

Could you measure the frame from the center of the BB to the top of the seat collar?  Looks like 19″ to me.  Other than that, looks cool.  That is the “Holy Grail” frame and paint for me.  My wife has a set of white Spins as well on her Trek Yfive0.  Chris King headset is a must.  Magura brakes are either a love em’ or hate em’ thing.  Not sure if you are looking to sell complete as is, or willing to part it out.  What it’s worth, and what you can get for it are two different animals these days.  My suggestion is part it out.  What would you want for frame only?

I would join cgofort in the search for a 13″ frame for my daughter.  I found a 13″ black/gold Factory frame, but the seller wants $275 + shipping, and my girl doesn’t like the color.  Whew.  She prefers bass boat blue.  Doooooooh!!  My fault there.  I’ll take any color if the frame is priced right, and can have it repainted if need be.  Thanks for any help.

Give me an email and we can work it out.  The $10 includes priority USPS shipping, so I might earn $3 on the deal.
